Caroline Flack reveals anti-depressant withdrawal hell

She's had a tough time behind the scenes

She’s always smiling and laughing when we see her on TV, but things are not always so happy off-screen for Caroline Flack.

Speaking in a moving new interview the Love Island presenter has admitted to dealing with horrendous bouts of depression, and her struggle to wean herself off the anti-depressants.

Her problems began after the TV star won Strictly Come Dancing in 2014.

Caroline, 39, says: “It all started the day after I won Strictly. I woke up and felt like somebody had covered my body in clingfilm.

“I couldn’t get up and just couldn’t pick myself up at all that next year. I felt ridiculous, being so sad when I’d just won the biggest show on telly and had such an amazing job.”

The former X Factor presenter added: “Anti-depressants helped me get up in the morning, and stopped me from being sad, but what they also do is stop you from being happy. So I was just in this numb state. I stopped laughing at jokes, and that’s just not me. I came off them after six months.”

But she describes the hell of withdrawal, saying: “I remember being at the photoshoot for my book cover and having to sit down because I was so dizzy. I couldn’t tell anyone the reason, that I was coming off anti-depressants.”

Last month the TV star was forced to deny claims she’d tried to kill herself, after an ambulance was called to her home.

It followed a report that her on/off fiancé, Andrew Brady had called 999 after a worrying call with Caroline, but her reps described the episode as a “ridiculous embellishment of a non-event”.

They said in a statement: “While an ambulance was called to Caroline’s address at the beginning of November, it was entirely unnecessary and paramedics found her to be in perfect health.

“They confirmed there was no emergency or reason for any concern.”

The statement was released after a source told The Sun that the Love Island host was left “absolutely mortified” that Andrew had called an ambulance.
