Carol Vorderman has said she isn’t looking for the next Mr Right and is happy just being single.

The presenter, 57, appeared on Monday’s Lorraine to talk about her new series, My Single Life, which celebrates women who are single in their 50s.

Discussing her attitudes towards dating now, Carol admitted she ‘couldn’t think of anything worse’ than to settle down and get married again.

Carol told host Lorraine Kelly: “On my 18th birthday, my mum sat me down and she said, ‘Carol it’s about time you settle down and get married.’

“We were brought up with those messages and all through our generation, we’ve done it so that we could have more freedoms and our kids will have more freedoms.”

She continued: “But now, there’s a whole pile of us who are single in our fifties, for whatever reason, some have chosen to be that way, some have been married and divorced.”

Reflecting on her marriage with Patrick King, whom she shares two children with, Carol added: “We had 10 extremely happy years and then it suddenly wasn’t happy. I regard that as a successful time in my life.”

Carol went on to speak about her new dating show, saying: “We’re single, in our fifties, how does that look?

“Stuff what the newspapers tell us which is, ‘feel sorry for everybody single in their 50s’, because that’s not how it looks at all.

“These women have found themselves by choice and making the most of their lives.”

She added: “It’s not about finding someone, it’s about women and the freedom to say this is my choice, some people want to find next Mr Right and settle down and get married. We don’t all want that.

“Now, we have time for ourselves and that has given us tremendous freedom to choose the things we want to do, some women might want two or three on the go, some might not want anybody.”

Carol said she isn’t looking to find a “keeper”, adding: “We’re not all looking for keepers, that is the point. I’m not, surprise surprise. I couldn’t think of anything worse at the moment. I’ve had the best summer of my life.”

Carol went on to reveal how she and Love Island winner Kem Cetinay had swapped chat up lines during filming for her new series.

She said: “I do have a laugh with Kem. He’s rubbish at chatting girls up, so rubbish. We try to give each other chat up lines. It’s actually hilarious, I cried for an hour, he’s so funny.”
