Former Countdown star Carol Vorderman forced to pull out of awards ceremony due to illness

She updated fans on Twitter

TV’s Carol Vorderman has had to pull out of presenting the Wales Sports Awards due to illness.

The former Countdown star, 58, was due to host the event this evening (10.12.19) with presenter Gethin Jones, 41.

But Carol informed her Twitter followers that she’s in no fit state to do the award show as she’s come down with a lung infection.

Responding to a tweet from BBC Wales, the maths whiz wrote: “Have a wonderful evening tomorrow #WalesSportsAwards, and huge congratulations to all of our incredible winners.

“Sadly, I’ve had to pull out because of a lung infection.

“I’m so sorry, and totally fed up about not being there to share what will be an amazing night… but sending love.”

Her fans responded with a flood of positive messages and told Carol to get well soon.

One said: “Aaw no, get well soon beautiful lady, Brysiwch wella, cariad xxx.”

I’m so sorry, and totally fed up about not being there.

Another wrote: “Get well soon beautiful xxx.”

Someone else told her: “Ah gutted! Sorry to hear that, hope you’re well again soon.”

The outpouring of wellwishes  comes as no surprise as Carol, who presented Countdown from 1982 to 2008, maintains a loyal following on Twitter.

She regularly uses the platform to update fans on her adventures flying aeroplanes, reveal hair transformations or post snaps showing off her age-defying look.

Earlier this year, she shared a selfie and wowed onlookers in a stunning deep mustard all-in-one ensemble, topped off with a pearl necklace, a pair of knee-high suede boots and, for some reason, a tiara.

The pic sent the Rear of the Year award winner’s fanbase into something of a meltdown but, like other celebrities on social media, she faces her share of vile trolls.

Speaking on This Morning in August, Carol revealed that she started receiving ageist comments after the 2000 BAFTAs, where she wore a blue dress that fell above the knee.

She told hosts Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes: “I get it all the time and has my attitude changed whatsoever? No! And is it going to change? No!”
