TV favourite Carol Vorderman left listeners chuckling as she opened up about her love life during her radio show earlier today.
The 58-year-old former Countdown presenter was in fits of giggles herself as she reflected on how a blind date fell apart when she realised she had been set up with an older man she initially mistook for her admirer’s dad!
She also recalled how her blushes became all the redder as she struggled to control the “minuscule” outfit she wore for the dinner in the 1980s.
Noting she was introduced by a colleague at Yorkshire Television, Carol admitted she was shocked when it became clear the ‘George’ she was meeting was nearly two decades older than her.
Speaking about the experience on BBC Radio Wales, she said: “This woman said I’ve got this friend and he would love to take you out and he’s amazing and he’s charming and this and that.”
Explaining she had only about four outfits – which were all very short – to wear at the time, Carol laughed as she remembered picking out a pair of turquoise silk shorts she likened to a “belt”.
“They showed absolutely everything,” she said, cheekily.
Carol continued: “I wore it with a low top, I can remember the outfit it was that dramatic.”
Continuing her tale, Carol described how she was surprised when a “charming gentlemen with greying hair” answered the door as she arrived at her date’s house.
“I said ‘is George in?’ Thinking that was his dad,” Carol said.
“He said ‘I’m George’,” she added.
Laughing, Carol continued: “I was 22 he must have been all of 40 and, well, I had to go to dinner didn’t I?
“And all the time, I’m pulling this minuscule shorts down!”
Crikey Carol, don’t turn the airwaves blue!
