BBC sacks Danny Baker after he’s accused of racist royal baby tweet

He confirmed his sacking on Twitter

Broadcaster Danny Baker has been fired by BBC Radio 5 after posting a tweet about the royal baby that appeared to compare little Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor to an ape.

The radio DJ, 61, shared a black-and-white image of a man and woman standing with a chimpanzee dressed in a hat, coat, trousers and shoes.

He wrote in the tweet, which has since been deleted: “Royal baby leaves hospital.”

Twitter users blasted the post as ‘racist’ because Meghan Markle’s mum, Doria Ragland, is African American.

After coming under fire, Danny took the tweet down and issued an apology.

He said: “Sorry my gag pic of the little fella in the posh outfit has whipped some up. Never occurred to me because, well, mind not diseased.

“Soon as those good enough to point out it’s possible connotations got in touch, down it came. And that’s it. Now stand by for sweary football tweets.”

The broadcaster wrote in another tweet: “Sorry my gag pic of the little fella in the posh outfit has whipped some up. Never occurred to me because, well, mind not diseased.

“Soon as those good enough to point out it’s possible connotations got in touch, down it came. And that’s it.”

But since then, Danny confirmed on Twitter that BBC Radio 5 has fired him.

He told his followers: “Just got fired from @bbc5live. For the record – it was red sauce. Always.”

ED! has reached out to Danny’s rep for comment.
