Brits to bask in 22C heat before rainy bank holiday weekend

Downpours are on the way...

Brits are set to enjoy some warm sunshine this week before a rainy bank holiday rolls in.

There will be spells of sunshine in most places this week but forecasters have warned that summer storms will hit Britain later in the week and rain will sweep in at the weekend.

Despite the rain, it’s been predicted that temperatures will creep over 20C in some places later this week.

Met Office forecaster Craig Snell told The Sun: “The Bank Holiday weekend won’t be a washout although most places will be at risk of showers at times, with the South having the greatest chance of being drier by Monday.

“But there will be sunny spells around 19C or 20C, which will feel warm.”

The Met Office said showers across the north and east Scotland will merge on Tuesday, meaning downpours can be expected in these parts today.

Further into the week, showers will strike hardest in the west on Thursday, but will be dry and bright elsewhere.

According to the Met Office, there will be scattered showers on Friday and Saturday, but longer spells of rain in the west.

On Saturday, much of the UK may start dry until rain reaches western areas later in the day.

Showers or perhaps longer spells of rain are likely on Sunday and Bank Holiday Monday in some areas, along with some stronger winds at times.

Despite the unpredictable weather, forecasters have predicted the UK will enjoy a scorching hot summer this year with temperatures expected to soar to 30C in June.

According to The Sun, the Met Office believes there is around a 50% chance it will be hotter than is usual for the time of the year until the start of August.

Even the bookies are backing the seasonal conditions to blaze even stronger than last summer.

A spokesperson from Coral told the Express website: “There’s every chance that this summer will top the sweltering heights of last year and if it does it will almost certainly go down as the hottest summer the UK has ever seen.”
