It's going to be a scorcher this week

Britain is set to enjoy scorching weather this week as temperatures are predicted to climb above 30C.

Southern England will see highs of 32C tomorrow (July 23) and Wednesday (July 24) as children across the country start their summer holidays.

The weather app on Apple devices is forecasting a whopping 37C in London on Thursday (July 25).

Met Office meteorologist Alex Burkill told the Standard: “This is looking like a record-breaking week.

“There’s a strong chance we’ll hit an all-time maximum temperature for July on Thursday, and almost certain we’ll see the hottest day of the year so far.”

Back in 2015, the UK’s record temperature for July was set at Heathrow, London, when temperatures reached 36.7C.

However, Mr Burkill told the publication that there is a 50% chance Thursday’s temperatures could beat this.

Public Health England and the Met Office have issued heat warnings for several areas across the country.

A heat-health watch statement said: “There is an 80 per cent probability of heat health criteria being met between 9am on Tuesday and 09am on Thursday in parts of England.

“A hot or very hot spell of weather is forecast to develop through the early part of next week, with the highest temperatures likely in the south and east of England.

“Conditions will stay very warm and humid by night which could lead to uncomfortable sleeping conditions.

“Some uncertainty regarding cloud and potential thunderstorms from Wednesday and thus how long the very warm conditions will last.”

Temperatures are even expected to hit 27C to 28C in parts of Scotland on Thursday.

Although London and southeast England are expected to see most of the scorching heat, the warm weather will spread up north with highs of 31C in Leeds and 35C in Nottingham on Thursday.
