Bridezilla demands more cash from wedding guest who gave gifts worth £150

The guest spent a lot more on her wedding present than most people would!

Most brides would be happy if their guests offered £30 in a card or bought them a gift around that value.

After all, you’ve just committed to spending the rest of your life with your partner in what should be one of the best and most important days of your life. What do wedding presents matter, really?

According to one anonymous wedding guest, posting on an online wedding shaming group, she coughed up the equivalent of around £150 (in Australian dollars) in gifts for her pal on her special day.

She thought she’d done okay by giving her mate a candle worth about £40 and cash of around £110, as would most people.

But the guest was shocked when, a little while after the wedding, her newlywed pal called her up demanding another £160.

According to the bridezilla, this three-figure sum would cover the cost of the guest and her partner attending the wedding, which she said amounted to $250 a head, or around £135.

Apparently taking to social media shortly after receiving the call from the bride, who was on her honeymoon at the time, the miffed guest wrote: “I’ve just hung up the phone from a friend (ex friend now!!) whose wedding was a few weekends ago.

“She had a beautiful wedding, lots of guests, lots of wine and food. There were even fireworks when she and her new hubby left (via a yacht) to go on their honeymoon.”

She initially thought the bride was calling people and thanking them for coming, but in reality, the bride was calling demanding money.

The guest continued: “She told me that the cost of having my husband and I at her wedding was far more than the miserly gift we gave her.”

What’s worse, she said the bride didn’t count the guest’s candle in her calculations as it wasn’t the one she wanted.

Writing further, the anonymous woman admitted she thought her ex-friend was being “sarcastic and joking” at first because her demands were so outrageous.

She ended the post by explaining to other users that in Australia, guests aren’t expected to cover the cost of their attendance in the gifts they give.

According to research carried out by Hitched.co.uk, the average cost of a wedding in the UK last year was £32,273 and 54% of couples specifically ask for money as a gift.

The website also reported that £50 to £75 is a normal amount to spend if it’s a friend’s wedding and you’ve been invited for the whole day.
