Brendan Cole clarifies remarks about Strictly’s Mollie King and AJ Pritchard’s rumoured romance

Our dreams of a secret relationship have been killed again

Former Strictly Come Dancing Brendan Cole has played down remarks about a possible romance between Strictly contestants Mollie King and AJ Pritchard.

It’s been claimed that Brendan, 41, told the audience at his All Night Long Tour he had bumped into Mollie and AJ together in a changing room – and hinted anything was possible with two young, single people on the show.

However, after the story started to spread everywhere, Brendan took to Twitter to clarify what he meant.

He wrote: “No! I make a light hearted anecdote during my stage show where I imply that maybe romance was in the air. A bit of fun during my show. I have never walked in on AJ and Mollie getting up to anything. Misquoted again. Sorry @MollieKing and @Aj11Ace”.

He later added he was “disappointed” that a “light hearted anecdote about a couple of colleagues with a wink and a nudge” had been spun into something else.

“My sincerest apologies to @Aj11Ace and @MollieKing,” he wrote.

It follows months of romance rumours between Mollie and AJ, who were paired up for the last series of Strictly Come Dancing and quickly became close.

Fans were particularly excited to see them leaving a wedding together, arm-in-arm, just after Christmas.

The Saturdays singer, Mollie, 30, and professional dancer, AJ, 23, have repeatedly denied anything romantic has happened between them.

In fact, only two weeks ago, Mollie spoke out again, telling The Sun: “With Strictly, you expect romance rumours, especially as I was single. But we could laugh it off because we’re so close.

“Every now and again I do get linked to people I’m not with and I’m trying to get used to that, but with Strictly it’s just part of it.

“While I would like to settle down, I’d rather be with my friends than the wrong person.”

She also told Lorraine Kelly she struggled with the scrutiny, saying: “There’s definitely a lot of attention when you’re on one of these shows.

“Obviously, romance rumours as well as everything that comes along with it – you know, the scrutiny and being judged on national TV – it’s terrifying but it’s the most amazing experience.

“You spend 12 hours a day together and you do just become so close. You have to really trust your partner.”
