Brad Pitt has been VERY open about why Angelina Jolie divorced him

The Hollywood heartthrob blames himself for the marriage breakdown

Brad Pitt has bared all in his first ever interview since Angelina Jolie filed for divorce.

The Fight Club actor has described the split as feeling like “death” and said that he relied on alcohol too much.

Brad, 53, spoke to GQ about his past as well as his new found love for therapy after splitting from Angelina Jolie eight months ago.

The brave father-of-six has also taken full ownership of his wrongdoings, explaining: “I hit the lottery and I still would waste my time on those hollow pursuits.”

These pursuits, meaning drugs and booze, caused Angelina to leave their 12-year-relationship.

He added: “[The split was] self-inflicted… If you love someone, set them free. Now I know what it means, by feeling it.

“It means to love without ownership. It means expecting nothing in return. It doesn’t mean [anything] to me until, you know. Until you live it.”

The magazine then asked him whether he felt like he was grieving a death after becoming single again, he simply replied: “Yeah.”

Brad has now cut alcohol out of his life forever after revealing that spirits, as well as drugs, were always a huge part of his life.

“I mean, we have a winery. I enjoy wine very, very much, but I just ran it to the ground. I had to step away for a minute,” he continued. “And truthfully I could drink a Russian under the table with his own vodka. I was a professional. I was good.”

He doesn’t want to live that life anymore.

“But me, personally, I can’t remember a day since I got out of college when I wasn’t boozing or had a spliff, or something.

“I mean I stopped everything except boozing when I started my family. But even this last year, you know —things I wasn’t dealing with. I was boozing too much. It’s just become a problem.”

To help him get through his hard time, the Oceans Eleven star has started therapy, and added: “I’m really trying to get better.”

He also has a new daily routine that helps him feel more alive.

“I get up every morning and I make a fire. When I go to bed, I make a fire, just because – it makes me feel life. I just feel life in this house,” he said.

Brad stars on three GQ covers, and is noticeably slimmer, presumably after giving up the alcohol.

The hunk is currently working on the second installment of World War Z and is said to keep busy by spending time keeping fit.

A source previously told US Weekly: “He lost a bunch of weight. He’s focusing on himself again, watching what he eats and has a chef making him healthy meals.

“He’s exercising. He’s been outdoors a lot, hiking and walking. He’s had a lot of time to focus on himself.”
