A two-month old baby who was cut from his mother's womb by a stranger who lured her to her death has died in hospital.
Little Yovanny Jadiel Lopez had been on life support in a Chicago medical centre, but was left with severe brain damage and passed away on Friday June 14.
Julie Contreras, a spokesperson for the family, posted a statement to her Facebook page revealing news of Yovanny's death.
"It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of baby Yovanny Jadiel Lopez.
"He passed away this Friday June 14, 2019 from his severe brain injury.
"Please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers as they go through this difficult time.
Please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers.
"The funeral will be a PRIVATE event for family only. Please respect the families wishes that event is PRIVATE."
Yovanny's mother, Marlen Ochoa, 19, was brutally strangled before her stomach was cut open and Yovanny was snatched from her womb.
Her body was not found for three weeks after her disappearance.
Claris Figueroa, 46, has appeared in court this week, alongside her daughter Desiree, charged with first-degree murder after it was alleged she lured Marlen to her house by offering free baby clothes on a local forum.
She is said to have taken the baby to the hospital and passed it off as her own after dumping Marlen's body in a trash can at the side of her house.
The alleged killer is even said to have set up a GoFundMe page to raise money for the infant's hospital care.
The youngster's true identity was confirmed by DNA test shortly after his mother's remains were found.
Police have not confirmed whether Claris and Desiree will face further charges over baby Yovanny's death.
Clarisa's boyfriend Piotr Bobak is charged with concealing Marlen's murder.
The suspects will appear back in court on June 26.
