When newsreader Charlotte Hawkins accidentally called swimmer Michael Phelps a ‘swinger’ on Good Morning Britain today, it caused one of the most awkward moments we’ve seen on TV recently.
As Charlotte was giving the news of Michael Phelps’ next sporting challenge, she made the blunder which she tried to rectify straight away. She said: “The world’s most decorated Olympian, swinger – swimmer – Michael Phelps will race against a great white shark….”
She then tried to hold in her own giggles as she realised she had made the mistake and said: “Sorry, everyone, that was not at all supposed to happen! I apologise to Michael Phelps, I know nothing! I’m not announcing anything, there’s no breaking news! I absolutely meant to say swimmer.”

Charlotte struggled to hide her embarrassment as she said to her fellow presenters: “Just move on don’t make a big deal,” to which her co-presenter Ranvir Singh jokingly replied: “You might have to swim very fast out of this one!”
Good Morning Britain even took to Twitter to joke about the awkward moment and wrote a post that said: “Oh @CharlotteHawkns, we’re still chuckling about THIS slip of the tongue this morning #SwimmerNotSwinger,” along with the clip of the blunder. Poor Charlotte! For those who didn’t catch it on TV, over 381k of GMB followers will now get it in their timeline.
The funny TV moment came only a few days after Susanna Reid flashed some flesh on Good Morning Britain while fellow presenter Piers Morgan said she was “basically naked”. Susanna showed viewers the low backline of her dress to show all the wires that were taped to her in order to hear direction from the show’s producers.
Piers helpfully gave her a hand pulling down the back of her dress as he said: “I’ve been looking at this. You’re basically naked with a bit of cloth”. Naughty!
Good Morning Britain seems to pride itself on having a bit of a laugh and a joke, as also last week presenter Richard Arnold got a hilarious Love Island makeover, complete with fake abs. He strutted onto the show topless after having had his chest and abdomen area contoured with makeup to resemble a Love Island hunk.
Piers, Charlotte and Susanna couldn’t help but laugh and Piers sarcastically asked: “Are you wearing a body double?”

Richard replied: “No this is me, this is zumba…that and a little bit of contouring.” Charlotte and Susanna were clearly happy, as they clapped for their fellow presenter and Susanna said: “You’ve been waiting your entire career to find an excuse to come on set in your underpants.”
