Anne Hegerty reveals what drove her to become ‘The Governess’

She called it an act of rebellion!

The Chase’s Anne Hegerty has revealed the ‘rebellious’ reason she became one of Britain’s most respected quiz masters.

Anne found fame as The Governess when she was scouted after joining a quiz group. Now, she has confessed that what drove her to succeed was actually an act of rebellion against her mother Shirley!

The 60-year-old made her admission while talking to her fans on Twitter.

While discussing her new show, Britain’s Brightest Family, with one fan, Anne tweeted: “I think it’s an unalloyed good to encourage children (and indeed adults) to be as bright as they can, and applaud them for it. My mother always made a point of telling me how unimpressed she was when I passed an exam, and I’ve rebelled against that ever since.”

It seems Anne’s determination has paid off as her career has gone from strength to strength since she joined the ITV quiz show in 2010.

As well as now fronting her own show, she was a huge hit on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! last year.

Anne has also found herself an inspiration to many after speaking out about her Asperger’s Syndrome.

She also opened up about more of her past recently. Last month, she spoke on the speculation around her love life while on Loose Women.

Anne revealed that she has dated men in the past, contrary to some of the reports she has read about herself, but often ended up calling things off because she felt “claustrophobic” in the relationship.

She added that she prefers to keep any potential suitors at “arm’s length”.

We do love your honesty, Anne!
