Bride kicks wedding guest out for ‘showing off’ military uniform

She was convinced he did it to "show off"

It’s almost universally accepted that a wedding day is all about the bride.

But for one angry newlywed, it was apparently too much to take as she accused one of her guests of stealing the limelight by turning up to her wedding in his military uniform.

Taking to Reddit, the bridezilla wrote: “The son of one of my husband’s family friends showed up to my wedding in his marine’s formal wear, complete with all his medals.

“Now I have nothing against anyone in the military but this was a black tie optional wedding and frankly it felt very out of place.

She explained that, to her, it seemed like the man was “just trying to show off”.

None of her other 300-plus guests, she said, felt the need to wear something that would make them stand out.

The woman was upset with the veteran for taking the attention away from her, as he posed for pics and had many of the guests “thanking him for his service”.

The bride continued: “Frankly it just felt like the only reason he wore that was to be in the spotlight and make it about him which I don’t think you are supposed to do at someone else’s wedding.”

The “whole point of having a dress code”, she insisted, was that no-one else there will stand out too much.

The woman said the veteran “should have known this” as that’s also the point of a military uniform, adding: “I felt kind of bad asking him to leave but it just didn’t feel right for him to be there like that.”

One Reddit user who was quoting a former army sergeant said it’s not right for veterans to wear their uniforms at non-military weddings without getting permission from the couple beforehand, but said kicking him out was “a bit much”.

Another user doubted the veteran meant anything by it.

They wrote: “If the bride thinks he did it to compete with her… she’s got problems. He probably wore the damn thing because it’s the formal thing that makes him feel the most awesome – not to steal the spotlight.”

A third Reddit user thought the bride had overreacted, commenting: “Everyone has probably already forgotten ‘that kid’ who wore his uniform. Especially if he wasn’t belligerent or disruptive, I think kicking him out was uncalled for.”

Some who responded to the post thought the military uniform should have been fine for the wedding, since it is technically a kind of formal attire.

But one user brought that argument down, writing: “The whole premise of it being formal attire makes it acceptable it wrong. A white dress also fits into the criteria. This is a wedding, not a normal function and you dress according to the function you are attending.”

It follows reports of a bride who was told by her mother-in-law to disinvite her own dad because his “disfigurement” – caused by burns from an accident when he was younger – might traumatise the other guests.
