Andrea McLean reveals she COLLAPSED after suffering from hypothermia

She was caught in a storm while filming Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins

| Updated:

Anyone who’s been watching Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins will know that the participants had a tough old time as they were put through their paces in the Chilean Andes.

But what may not yet know that Andrea McLean collapsed while filming the Channel 4 reality show, which is in aid of Stand Up For Cancer.

The Loose Women star, 49, has revealed that a freezing-cold storm on the mountainside left her with hypothermia – an incident that viewers will see on Sunday’s programme.

Andrea has blamed the menopause for leaving her particularly susceptible to the conditions.

The Glasgow-born star was in the mountains with instructor Ant Middleton, and celebs including former footballer Wayne Bridge and former Olympic cyclist Victoria Pendleton, when the storm hit.

She told the Mirror: “All I can remember is I was so cold, and Ant shouted at everyone to gather around me. I can’t remember what he called it, but it was something to do with penguins.

“They hugged around me to keep me warm. I was shaking and then the next thing, my body just stopped shaking, I went very, very still, and then that was when my legs went.”

Luckily, Andrea didn’t actually black out, and Ant was able to guide her down the mountain to receive treatment at ground level.

But the star was left shaken up by the ordeal, and reckons it was brought on by the menopause.

“People only tend to think of hot flushes,” she told the Mirror. “But [the menopause] doesn’t just mean you get hot and you can’t cool down – it also means if you get cold, you can’t warm up.”

Earlier this month, we reported that poor old Andrea’s dog had died on the day she departed the Channel 4 show.

After hearing about Jackson’s death, she told Metro Online: “My dog is a huge part of my life.

“Dealing with that over the phone, calming down the children, sorting them out, and walking into the house and the dog that I’d had throughout, to open the door and he wasn’t there, I was dealing with that as well.

“So there was a whole lot going on in my head.”

– Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins continues tomorrow night (Sunday) at 9pm on Channel 4.
