Greggs is giving away free food for a year… but there’s a catch

Not everyone can enter

Fans of Greggs are in with a chance of getting free food from the bakery chain for a whole year.

Online food order and delivery company Just Eat has launched a giveaway that allows anyone whose name is Greg, or contains the word Greg, to have free Greggs delivered to their door every month in 2020.

That mean if you’re called Greg, Gregory, Grégoire or some other variation of the name, you can enter the competition.

Unfortunately, the restrictions on entrants’ names isn’t the only catch.

At present, Greggs is only available to order on Just Eat in three UK cities – London, Newcastle and Glasgow.

This means you effectively have to live in one of those places to enter. Even then, you also need to live near a participating Greggs store – the Whitechapel, East Ham or Elephant & Castle locations in London; the St Mary’s Place, Byker or Gosforth High Street locations in Newcastle;  or Victoria Road or Dumbarton Road in Glasgow.

As reported by Metro, to be in with a chance of winning all you have to do is order something from Greggs via Just Eat.

If you have Greg somewhere in your name, that will count you in the running.

The competition will end this Wednesday (December 10), so all entries need to be made before then.

Despite the restrictions, the givaway’s likely to be popular, as Greggs was recently revealed to be the most popular dining brand in the UK.

In October, a poll of Brits’ favourite places to eat conducted by YouGov placed Greggs at the top, with an approval rating of 66 per cent.

Behind it was pub chain JD Wetherspoon, with 59 per cent, followed by McDonald’s (54 per cent), Pizza Hut (54 per cent), Subway (54 per cent), Pizza Express (53 per cent), Costa Coffee (52 per cent), Domino’s Pizza (52 per cent), KFC (52 per cent) and Toby Carvery (51 per cent).

While it’s been a good year for Greggs, the chain left consumers divided in January with the launch of its vegan sausage roll.

Unsurprisingly, Good Morning Britain host Piers Morgan voiced his frustration at the creation of the vegan snack and slammed it on Twitter, writing: “Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns.”

Greggs, which saw the funny side to Piers’ fury, replied: “Oh hello Piers, we’ve been expecting you.”
