Home and Away

Home and Away is the second-longest running drama in Australia after Neighbours, first airing in the UK on ITV in 1989. After Channel 5 won the rights it began broadcasting the soap in 2001 where it’s still shown twice a day in a lunchtime and a teatime slot.

The soap has always been renowned for its action-packed drama, where natural disasters and high-octane stunts are part of each season. But, between the gripping plots, fans also enjoy the soap’s family-based storylines which focus on characters who they’ve grown to know and love.

The most famous Summer Bay resident is Alf Stewart, played by Ray Meagher. Ray was part of the soap’s original cast and holds a Guinness World Record for being the longest-serving actor in an Australian serial drama.

With its beautiful setting right on the beach, Home and Away gives British fans a chance to escape the grey skies of the UK and see what life is like when the sun shines every day. The fictional town of Summer Bay is set in Palm Beach, not far from Sydney, and fans can even go and visit the very beach the soap is filmed on.
