Discount supermarket Lidl to 'launch online delivery service'

Very welcome if true

It seems any supermarket worth its salt has an online delivery service.

Taking the hassle away from grocery shopping, they deliver your orders straight to your door.

And now reports claim that discount food chain Lidl is now getting in on the act with its own online delivery service.

The Sun reports that the chain is advertising for a digital project manager to head up a 'new online platform'.

The job description includes 'driving online sales'.

Earlier in the summer, Lidl told online magazine The Grocer that it was actively exploring the idea of online shopping.

All this activity begs the question: does this mean Lidl will finally join the ranks of supermarket online deliveries?

The newspaper points out that the retailer may be about to launch something along the lines of an online shopping service.

Or it could be developing an app to be used by shoppers in-store.

Currently, Lidl's discount competitor Aldi offers online delivery on some of its Specialbuy products, its everyday collection range, as well as on wines and spirits.

Despite this service, customers still have to make up their purchases at their local branch.

The likes of Asda, Sainsbury's, Tesco and Waitrose all offer a full online shopping facility and delivery service.

If Lidl did introduce an online delivery service, it would be a welcome addition to the ranks, especially as Christmas is just around the corner.

Some of its competitors have already launched their festive-themed food line-ups.

Tesco's Christmas range includes turkey and stuffing crisps, while Aldi unveiled halloumi pigs in blankets among its Yuletide treats.

M&S also launched its mouthwatering range.
