There’s a monster on the loose in tonight’s new thriller The Loch – and it’s not Nessie

How can somewhere so beautiful hide such ugly secrets?

Ever since Kenneth Brannagh jumped on Swedish drama Wallander and brought his own version to BBC One, we’ve grown accustomed to crime dramas set in stunning locations.

Think Vera stomping around the wilds of Northumberland, Hardy and Miller combing the beautiful beach of Broadchurch and Perez stalking down criminals in Shetland…

But ITV has raised the bar of ‘badness in beauty’ with new thriller The Loch.

As the name suggests, the six-part crime drama is set in Scotland – at its most famous Loch, Ness.

But the picturesque setting betrays dark secrets.

Gray O’Brien, who many of you will remember as Corrie psychopath Tony – who kidnapped wife Carla Connor and tried to burn them both to a crisp – stars as local ‘Nessie’ tour boat operator, Alan Redford.

In all her time with the police, she has never come across a murder in the community – until now.

She works alongside city big boss Lauren Quigley, who is stifled by the quaint location and closed community.

When a popular local is killed, her safe but boring world is thrown into disarray, as it becomes clear there is a monster far more dangerous than Nessie lurking among them.

Don Gilet – former EastEnders bad boy Lucas – also stars as brash but brilliant – forensic psychologist, Blake Albrighton.
