The good news is, Outnumbered is returning for a Christmas special this year: the better news is, everyone is thrilled about it.

The popular BBC sitcom, which ended in 2014, is to return for a festive episode and all the cast are coming back.

Andy Hamilton, the show’s creator, told The Telegraph: “The first reaction [when it turns up at Christmas] will probably be: ‘My God, the kids are huge now!’

“The second reaction will be the one the writers have been getting since the series started in 2007: ‘I reckon you must have cameras in our house.’

“I remember writing a scene with (director) Guy (Jenkin) where Karen had been knocked down. The two parents start reminiscing about the number of times they’ve managed to maim their children. Me and Guy pooled our experiences – I left our eldest behind on an island, and put that in.”

The show began in 2007 and saw parents Pete and Sue Brockman, brought to life by Hugh Dennis and Claire Skinner, getting on with life with their hilarious three children, Karen, Jake and Ben, played by Ramona Marquez, Tyger Drew-Honey and Daniel Roche respectively.

The younger cast-members are all grown up now – Ramona was just six when she started filming the series, and she’s now 15, while Daniel is 16 and Tyger is 20.

But fans of the show are incredibly excited for its comeback, no matter how old the kids are, and have taken to Twitter to reveal their glee over a Christmas comeback.

One person even went to far as to say that it “saved Christmas”. No pressure.

Andy also revealed that he is hoping for Outnumbered to make a return every few years.

He said: “Our plan is to pop in every couple of years and see how the family is getting on. You learn not to think too far ahead, but who knows? Many years down the line there’ll be an episode where Karen becomes a grandmother.”

Amazing!
