Loose Women star slams Katie Piper over Halloween outfits comments

Colleen said that it's "just kids having fun"

Acid attack survivor Katie Piper has been criticised by Loose Women panellist Coleen Nolan after she pleaded for people to stop wearing Halloween costumes that glorify trauma.

Former model Piper, who was badly scarred and left blind in one eye in an assault arranged by her ex-boyfriend in 2008, posted on Instagram earlier this week slamming outfits that imitate accident victims.

The 33-year-old asked fans to not “dress up as someone that has had trauma happen to them”.

She wrote: “It’s not even Halloween and I’ve already had over 20 photos on my feed of make up artists posting their Halloween gore make overs.

“It’s distasteful and offensive to make temporary burns, scars and disfigurements on someone’s face for Halloween.

“Pumpkins, witches, cats, bats, whatever but not someone who has been seriously injured please.”

Her comments were criticised during Friday’s Loose Women as former singer Nolan said she disagreed, insisting most costumes are “kids having fun”.

“She’s a fantastic woman and it’s incredible what she’s done and how she helps other people going through the same trauma.

“I have to say though, in this instance I don’t agree with her,” said Nolan.

“It’s Halloween. It’s kids. They look forward to it and the more fake blood you put on them and they all want scars. It would be different if they were taking the mick.”

Piper has undergone more than 100 operations to rebuild her face after she was disfigured.

Her representatives said they would make no further comment.
