The actor is set to appear on our screens next month

Mrs Brown’s Boys D’Movie star Simon Delaney is joining Coronation Street as one of the new residents of Weatherfield.

Simon is best known for his role in Mrs. Brown’s Boys D’Movie where he plays Tom Crews.

But it seems he is ditching the movie scene and heading into the soap world.

A source told the Sunday World: “Simon plays an Irish character and has already filmed his opening scenes.”

However there hasn’t been anything else revealed about the new mysterious character.

Simon tweeted a message which teased his upcoming role on the soap.

The star revealed he is currently in Manchester, which is where Corrie is filmed, but didn’t reveal much else.

He wrote: “Yes indeed, the rumours are true, I am heading to Manchester. This Thursday. For the United match. #amongstotherthings.”

Meanwhile on Corrie viewers have been glued to their screens with Bethany Platt’s harrowing grooming storyline.

The school girl is being manipulated by Nathan Curtis into believing he loves her but is actually setting her up to sleep with more of his ‘mates’.

Corrie fans are outraged as Bethany is taken in by his charm and has already been subjected to an awful rape ordeal.

Speaking to Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield on This Morning Chris Harper, who plays Nathan, revealed the storyline will get darker.

He said: “He teases her saying ‘this is what grown ups do, you wouldn’t understand, you’ll get it when you’re older’. He’s constantly playing on a weakness that she has because she knows she’s so much younger than him.

“She’s going to be entering a very dark place, and Nathan introducing his friend Neil is really just the beginning.”
