Former Corrie star’s despair as daughter AND granddaughter JAILED on the same day

The soap legend has been plagued by family heartache

Coronation Street legend Johnny Briggs, who played Mike Baldwin in the ITV soap for 40 years, faced more despair with his daughter and granddaughter.

He has lived with their daily battle against drugs, to the point that he disowned them after they refused to change their ways.

They will be lost to him for a while now though, as they have been jailed after being charged with a string of thefts.

The 81-year-old former soap star has not publicly commented on their transgressions but it is known that he has previously washed his hands of their behaviour.

Drug addict Karen Briggs, 51, and her daughter Emma Beach, 28, were both found guilty of stealing bicycles from a Surrey train station at Guildford Crown Court.

The pair had committed the crimes on June 21 and July 18, so that they could fund their addictions.

A spokesman for British Transport Police said: “Briggs was charged with four breaches of a criminal behaviour order and one count of a pedal cycle theft at Cobham rail station on June 21.

“She was sentenced to nine months imprisonment.

“Beach was charged with four counts of breaching a criminal behaviour order, thefts of a pedal cycle at Cobham rail station on June 21 and July 18.

“She also stole a bike from Oxshott rail station on July 18. She was sentenced to 15 month imprisonment.”

This is not the first time that Johnny has seen his offspring caught up with the police.

Previously they had been banned from every shop in Surrey.

They had been funding a heroin addiction with over 100 thefts across the county and had been served with ASBOs, due to another 48 convictions.

At the time, Karen acknowledged that it was her drug habit that was leading down a route of shoplifting and theft.

She promised to clean up her act and has said that she was finally clean.

It seems though from this latest transgression, that her and daughter Emma are still hooked on the drugs and they have now paid the price with a custodial sentence.
