Emmerdale boss reveals whether Andy Sugden will return

Viewers have wanted him to return to the village

| Updated:

There has been a growing call for Andy Sugden to end his exile and return to Emmerdale.

He went on the run after appearing in court to when charged with shooting Lawrence White.

It has since been proved that it was Lawrence’s grandson Lachlan that did the crime and Andy could be cleared of any involvement.

With Andy’s daughter Sarah returning to the village with mum Debbie and the revelation that she is very ill, viewers have wanted Andy to come back home.

So, the question is, will Kelvin Fletcher be reprising the role he played for the past 20 years?

Emmerdale’s producer Iain MacLeod has decided to address the rumours that there could be a shock return.

At a press event for the ITV soap, Iain spoke out to the media about the future of Andy Sugden.

He said: “There are no plans to do that at the moment, but I’d have to be an idiot not to have it in the back of my mind, as Andy Sugden is such a huge character and Kelvin’s an amazing actor.

“There’s nothing on the table to that effect at present,

“But I never stop thinking about random, surprising things that might happen or people who may return,

“So I wouldn’t rule it out.”

Kelvin had left the role to explore other acting opportunities and hasn’t shown any desire to return to the soap.

When Andy left the soap on screen, Kelvin said at the time: “People have said they hope he’s not leaving forever, but I really don’t know what the future holds.

“For me Andy is a character I’ve grown to love and who I’ll never forget.

“I’d leave any exciting future storylines in the capable hands of the talented producers, storylines and writers.

“For me as an actor, I still feel like I could give more with the part of Andy and I always will.

“But at this moment in time, I want to try a different challenge.”
