Westlife’s Mark Feehily says he wants to be in Strictly’s first same-sex dancing couple

Wants same-sex appearance

Westlife’s Mark Feehily says he wants to be the first contestant to compete in a same-sex pairing on Strictly Come Dancing.

Father-of-one Mark, 39, revealed that he would love to follow in the footsteps of bandmate Nicky Byrne, who competed in the show in 2012, but be part of an all-male couple.

He also said that he has already met with series talent bookers.

Mark was speaking to The Mirror about the show.

He said that unlike his bandmate Kian Egan, he couldn’t do I’m A Celebrity, but likes the idea of Strictly.

“Strictly is the only one with an ability attached to it,” he said.

“I could see it: ‘Dancing The Cha Cha Cha, Mark Feehily and Anton du Beke’.

It would have to be with a guy as it would feel strange for me to go with a girl.

“Well it wouldn’t feel strange but why wouldn’t I do it with a guy?”

Earlier in this series of Strictly, Johannes Radebe and Graziano Di Prima became the first same-sex duo to perform on the show.

While the dance received plenty of positive feedback, it emerged the pro-dancers’ routine attracted 200 complaints.

After the routine, Graziano tweeted “representation always matters” as he described the dance as an “unforgettable moment”.

The complaints that came in via the BBC’s official complaints process stated that viewers “[found it] offensive to feature two men dancing as a pair”.

In response to the complaints, the BBC said: “Strictly Come Dancing is an inclusive show and is proud to have been able to facilitate the dance between Johannes and Graziano during the Professionals’ dance.”

Mark’s wish comes after Strictly legend Anton Du Beke revealed that he would be all for partnering up with a male celebrity in 2020.

“It’s just dancing, isn’t it? Fred Astaire danced with Gene Kelly,” he told The Sun.

“I’d have been very happy to dance with Gene Kelly or Fred Astaire, I don’t mind.

“Strictly is a bit of a mirror on society, actually. And it should be.”
