Strictly Come Dancing’s Shirley Ballas ‘in pain’ during live show after surgery

She underwent a four-hour op last week

Shirley Ballas has revealed she was in pain during the latest Strictly Come Dancing live show.

The head judge, 59, went through a four-hour operation last week as she had her breast implants removed due to cancer fears.

But the ballroom dancer wasn’t keen to miss out on Saturday’s (02.11.19) show, despite having surgery just days before.

Speaking on today’s (04.11.19) episode of Lorraine, Shirley explained: “It is [painful] and it was for the show, but I chose to take minimal painkillers. Because I didn’t want to take anything when I was on the show, so to speak.

“But every day it will get better. I think it’s about six to eight weeks recuperation. It gets there slowly. I won’t [miss a show].”

Speaking further, Shirley said she spoke about the procedure with contestant Michelle Visage, who recently had her own implants taken out.

Shirley told host Lorraine Kelly that the pair chatted at a Strictly after-party and Michelle advised her to “take her time” recuperating.

Elsewhere in the interview, Shirley admitted she is “still getting used” to life without implants.

She explained: “I feel more like myself. I’m still getting used to it, because all the clothes are a little bit different now. It was a DD and now it’s an AB, so it’s quite a difference in bust size.”

Shirley revealed her plans to have her breast implants removed in a chat with The Sun back in September.

She told the newspaper at the time: “I’m scheduled for the operation on Tuesday, October 29. My doctor says I have recuperation of a week, but I want to do Strictly on the Saturday night.”

Shirley got her implants in 2002 but has since lost several relatives to cancer. Her mother and aunt are currently fighting the disease.

A recent mammogram was also a big wake-up call for the star, as she said a nurse gave her the forewarning.

Speaking with The Sun, Shirley explained there is no “guarantee that we can ever really see behind the back of the implants”.

She is one of thousands of women in the UK who may be suffering from breast implant illness, symptoms of which include chronic pain and chronic fatigue. Shirley said had been suffering from the latter.
