Strictly’s Anton Du Beke claims he’ll hang on to the “bitter end”

He's still hoping to win it

Strictly Come Dancing star Anton Du Beke pro dancer has claimed he has no intention of leaving the hit show, insisting he’s still in it to win it.

Anton has been on the show since it all kicked off in 2004 but has no intention of throwing in the towel – in fact he admitted he gets nervous about being dropped.

Speaking to The Mirror, he said that he’ll stay on the hit show as long as possible, and do all he can to take home the glitterball trophy.

“I do get nervous about not being asked back because I love it so much,” he said.

“If I didn’t care it wouldn’t bother me. I feel the same about the show now as I did at the beginning.

“I’m not going anywhere. I’m staying to the bitter end.”

So far Anton hasn’t managed to take home the trophy. His strongest year was back in series one, where he came in at third place, with celeb contestant Lesley Garrett.

He then came in fourth in series 7 with celeb contestant Laila Rouass and again in series 13 with Katie Derham.

He joked that he tends to get paired with the older contestants, which makes winning a bit more difficult.

He’s been partnered with Lesley Joseph who was then 71, Esther Rantzen who was 64, and Ann Widdecombe at 63.

“We haven’t seen me win, I’m hoping this is the year. I’m going for a bendy one this series,” he said.

He said that at 52 he’s lucky he doesn’t have “aches and pains” getting in the way of his dancing.

And while he’s not ready to retire his dancing shoes just yet, he admitted he’d consider joining the judge’s table if he was asked.

The dancer – who welcomed twins with his wife last March – has been branching out in recent years though. He released his debut novel, One Enchanted Evening, in October.
