Strictly’s AJ Pritchard refuses to “label” his sexuality

He doesn't understand why "everything needs a label"

Dancer AJ Pritchard has said he refuses to “label” his sexuality.

The Strictly Come Dancing professional thinks it is more important to “follow your heart” when it comes to relationships, rather than stick within the confines of society or a label.

In an interview with Gay Times magazine, AJ said he finds it “mad that everything always has to have a label”.

He said: “You never know how times will change in where you are in your life. But it is always about being happy and being true to yourself.

“Like always follow your heart – obviously listen to your brain – but really just at that time in your life.

“It is mad that everything always has to have a label, whether it be the clothes by designers or whether you are in a relationship.”

AJ added: “Everybody always wants to have that label when it is not always necessary. At that time of your life, whatever you are, or wherever you are, things always change.

“You can’t ever say never, because you don’t know what is around the corner.”

The dancer added that as long as people are happy “that is the main thing”.

AJ had previously admitted he is “open” to finding love on Strictly Come Dancing.

Speaking before he took to the floor with Lauren Steadman during last year’s competition, he told The Sun: “I’m happy people are interested in us. We’re both single and we will see what happens.

“I’m sure people will enjoy our romantic performance in our first show, which is going to be something special. I’m open to finding love.”

Meanwhile, during an appearance on This Morning on Tuesday, AJ opened up about his future on the BBC show.

AJ revealed he hasn’t heard producers telling him he’s wanted back for the seventeenth series later this year.

He said: “Thing is we’re all in the same situation. Like any contract we wait for that phone call. Obviously I want to be back.

“Hopefully that phone call does come. It’s all good.”

AJ also spoke about fellow dancer Pasha Kovalev deciding to leave the show after eight years.

He said: “Obviously the show is fantastic and we love it and I’ll do it for many years as possible. The sad thing with Pasha leaving – we didn’t expect it.

“He made the decision to do it. He was quiet. It’s losing a member of the Strictly family.”
