Strictly Come Dancing: James Cracknell is the first celeb out

He was in the dance-off with David James

There were no big surprises during Strictly Come Dancing‘s first elimination show this year, as James Cracknell was booted off, alongside pro partner Luba.

The Olympian had floundered at the bottom of the leader board for both weeks of the series so far.

It seemed inevitable that he would end up in the dance-off with fellow sportsman David James and his partner Nadiya, who had also had a tough ride on the show so far.

The judges were unanimous in their decision to let James go.

Craig Revel Horwood chose to save David and Nadiya, telling the couple: “Well for me in that dance off one couple improved beyond compare and that couple is the couple I would like to save, David and Nadiya.”

Motsi Mabuse also chose to save David and Nadiya, saying: “I felt a stronger performance, a stronger intention, clearer actions.”

Bruno Tonioli said: “I have to save the couple that really showed to me how you apply and you work on the comments of the judges and deliver a performance that is almost night and day from one day to the other… David and Nadiya.”

Head Judge Shirley Ballas confirmed she would have also sent James home.

Viewers were a little more divided on the decision…

One fan said: “The choice between David and James was hardly difficult. Both of them could have gone and I wouldn’t be sad!”

Another felt the right one of the two had gone, saying: “It was right that James went over David.”

Others felt James was making progress however, including one supporter who wrote: “James’ steps are almost in time. I hope he wins tonight. That dance was so much better than last night!!! ”
