Strictly Come Dancing 2019: Dev Griffin confirmed as 13th contestant

He believes he's going to win the series!

Dev Griffin has been confirmed for this year’s Strictly Come Dancing.

The BBC Radio 1 DJ is the 13th celebrity contestant announced for the 17th series of the Latin and ballroom show, which will return this autumn, and he is “in it to win it”.

Dev said: “I just can’t believe I’m doing ‘Strictly’, it just doesn’t feel real yet.

“It’s going to be so much fun, but just to be clear, I’m not doing this to take part, I’m totally in it to win it!

“I can’t wait to meet my partner and start practicing.”

Dev started out in children’s TV on BBC Two and went on to star on BBC 1Xtra before joining Radio 1.

He is no stranger to making a final on a celebrity competition after doing so in 2017’s ‘Celebrity MasterChef’, but he was beaten to the title by Angellica Bell.

Dev’s confirmed Strictly appearance comes after women’s footballer-turned-pundit Alex Scott was announced as the 12th celeb contestant yesterday (06.08.19).

She said: “I am absolutely buzzing to be signed up to ‘Strictly’. It’s the show I’ve always wanted to do and I can’t believe I’m finally going to be part of it.

“I’m super excited, but also terrified at the same time … the football pitch is a bit less glam than the ballroom, but I’m ready to try the sequins and dresses! Bring it on!”

Dev and Alex will be joined on the show by Jamie Laing, Will Bayley, Michelle Visage, Viscountess Emma Weymouth, Karim Zeroual, Mike Bushell, Catherine Tyldesley, Saffron Barker, David James, Chris Ramsey and Emma Barton.

On Monday, it was revealed that RuPaul’s Drag Race star Michelle and Made In Chelsea star Jamie had signed up for this year’s series.

Michelle said: “Getting to do Strictly in my favorite place on Earth is an actual DREAM! I’m so excited to show that being 50 doesn’t mean life stops.

“Things may not work like they did when I was 20, but 50 also means ‘FABULOUS!’ There are plenty of women like me out there who still ‘got it’ and we still ‘plan to use it!’ so slap on the sequins, point me to the dance floor and watch me Paso my Doble!”

Meanwhile, Jamie said: “I am beyond thrilled to be asked to be on Strictly, the only person potentially more thrilled is my mother.
