Strictly Come Dancing’s Susan Calman reveals 999 drama

It happened during rehearsals

Say what you like about Susan Calman’s appearance on Strictly Come Dancing last year, but she certainly gave it her all.

In fact, the comedian, 43, put in so much effort during one rehearsal with her dance partner Kevin Clifton that an ambulance ended up being summoned to the studio.

However, she revealed on this morning’s Saturday Kitchen that the source of the emergency call was not what you’d expect.

Speaking to host Matt Tebbutt, the Scottish star explained: “It was eight, nine hours a day. And my favourite moment, we were doing the jive, and I’ve got a smartwatch that monitors your heart. I was dancing away, and I heard: ‘Woo, woo, woo.’

“My smartwatch had called an ambulance because my heart rate had gone over… my heart rate was 210!”

However, despite that awkward episode, Susan admitted that she actually enjoyed the hard work she was put through by Kevin.

She said: “Eight hours a day, five days a week. It was incredible. The physical part of it is unexpected but beautiful.”

In fact, she was so impressed with her dance partner that she got herself inked as a tribute to him.

Susan, who married lawyer Lee Cormack in a civil ceremony in 2012, recalled: “People say you make great friends on the show, but [Kevin] is genuinely one of my best friends. And, I mean, I got a tattoo for him. I got an actual, genuine tattoo for that man.

“I don’t have a tattoo for my wife, but I have a tattoo that says: ‘I love Grimsby’ on my foot.”

Meanwhile, Strictly presenter Tess Daly has spoken about the show’s notorious ‘curse’ and the likelihood of there being a romance during this year’s series.

She told Metro.co.uk: “This infamous ‘Strictly Curse’ often takes the whole production cast by surprise, and this year’s single celebs could easily fall for their stunning dance partners.

“Who do I think has the potential for romance in this year’s group of celebrities? You’ve got to look at who’s single. But often we don’t see it coming – not the curse, the romance.

“Romance can and does blossom occasionally. So I’ll be keeping my eye out. I’ll let you know – I don’t miss a trick!”
