Strictly Come Dancing was live from Blackpool Tower ballroom this evening, and one couple bagged themselves a simply perfect 40.
The first of the series!
Former Pussycat Doll Ashley Roberts and her professional partner Pasha Kovalev landed the top score after performing a fish and chip-themed jive.

While it’s an amazing achievement and always a landmark moment in any run of the show, this didn’t come without controversy.
Many viewers aren’t happy that Ashley has experience of dancing professionally as a pop star, although this was contemporary.
Cue the whole country shouting at the tv: “but she’s a professional dancer!” #Strictly

I really like Ashley Roberts and Pascha but come on she is a professional dancer. I know the lines blur a bit on Strictly sometimes but this is a step too far. #strictly #strictly2018 pic.twitter.com/rS9ADuunQ5

Oh my word what a show #strictly the non pro dancers are fantastic it’s a travesty that they are up against a pro masquerading as a celebrity # Ashley Roberts

Others were delighted to see her and Pasha’s consistent brilliance rewarded.
Ashley and Pasha by far the best out there, well deserved 40? Got one hand on trophy already. #Strictly
