John Barnes keen on I’m A Celebrity 2019

Football legend reckons ITV reality series would be like a 'holiday'

Football icon John Barnes may have scored an own goal after declaring that appearing on I’m A Celebrity would be comparable to taking a holiday.

The Liverpool and England legend will be seen confidently predicting he would ace the jungle ITV series by viewers of The Jonathan Ross Show tonight.

However, it seems John may not have taken on board some crucial advice from fellow chat show guest Harry Redknapp, who himself had been told by hard man ex player Neil Ruddock that I’m A Celeb was ‘the hardest thing he had ever done’.

Harry, 72 – crowned King of the Jungle after winning the most recent run of the reality show in December – also revealed he very nearly didn’t make the trip to Oz after being “scared” by Razor’s recollection of his camp experience.

Nonetheless, 55-year-old John reckons he would have little trouble dealing with the creepy-crawlies down under.

He also believes his huge appetite will ensure his stomach is strong enough to take on any Bush Tucker Trial challenge laid before him.

“From the point of view of eating anything, I eat everything and anything, so from that point of view I would do it,” the Mirror’s website reports he says during tonight’s Jonathan Ross Show.

John is said to add: “Lying around doing nothing much, I quite fancy so I’d probably look at it as a bit of a holiday. I would do it, yeah.”

And it seems former contestant Gemma Collins is also keen to have another crack at the jungle’s testing conditions, having flopped when cast in the series in 2014.

The GC last three days before quitting – but begs bosses to consider selecting her again.

Insisting she was new to showbiz at the time, Gem tells Wossy she was “petrified” and “out of her depth” – but claims she is more equipped to deal with the pressures of the reality show at this stage of her career.

“I’ve got a lot more experience. I’ve got a tougher skin now and I think that’s where The GC came into play,” the DOI star is reported as saying.
