We’ve heard some great celeb anecdotes from the I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! contestants so far, but apparently not all of them are 100% true…
Nick Knowles has been accused of telling porkies after telling a story about a jam session with Biffy Clyro on a roof.
Speaking to the camp, and then again in the Bush Telegraph, he claimed he’d been offered a record deal after playing with the band.
He explained: “I’ve always played. My brother’s a really good musician and I’ve always played along with him and then a couple of years ago somebody heard me playing. I was playing on a rooftop bar in Soho with some other bands… famous people from bands.
Acting coy, he went on: “It’s probably best not to say who they are because it would be embarrassing for them more than anything else. Actually, they won’t mind, they’re nice lads. It was Biffy Clyro.
“Somebody from a record company saw me doing it and I got a phone call saying, ‘I’m from Universal, do you want to do an album?'”
Viewers loved the idea, tweeting: “Finding out Nick Knowles and Biffy Clyro jammed on a roof in SoHo is probs the best thing I’ve heard all year.” Another wrote: “As a fan of both Nick Knowles AND Biffy Clyro this episode is making my night 😂😂😂 #ImACeleb.”
In fact, it sent one of Nick’s songs, Make You Feel My Love, straight to the top of the charts!
But now the band have hit back, claiming the 56-year-old presenter is being “a bit fast and loose with the truth,” calling the tale a “half-truth.”
Speaking on Greg James’ Radio 1 Breakfast Show, Biffy Clyro’s drummer, Ben Johnston reportedly said: “It was more like eight years ago, and it was after an awards ceremony. We came back to this hotel in Soho and we’d been informed that Nick Knowles had bought us a bottle of champagne to celebrate on the roof!
“He was a nice guy! I’m not going to say anything bad about him. Mr Nick Knowles, he was lovely. But I don’t think it’s quite the Kum Ba Yah situation that everyone might have in their heads.”
He added: “I’m really sorry to shatter the illusion that we had a proper heavy jam with Nick Knowles, because that did not happen I’m afraid. It’s a half truth. We were in the same rooftop bar at the same time, and he was very nice.”
Fans of the TV star were amused tweeting: “As if Greg James and Biffy Clyro have just called [bleep] on Nick Knowles, live on the radio, hahahahaha love it.”
Another defended Nick’s music, writing: “Pretty sure @BBCRadio2 just played Nick Knowles and actually he puts Biffy Clyro to shame. Raw, hearty and full of soul. #ImACeleb.”
Another playfully suggested: “PLOT TWIST: Nick Knowles is telling the truth, and Biffy Clyro are making it sound like Nick was exaggerating because they are embarrassed after all 🤔 😂.”
The DIY SOS star has won fans during his first few days in the Aussie jungle for his fun stories and kindness.
He melted hearts when he gave up his luxury item on I’m A Celebrity and gave it to his campmate Anne Hegerty earlier this week.
The Chase’s Anne, 60, has had a tough journey so far in the jungle and DIY SOS host Nick wanted to give Anne his pillow to help her sleep better.
He explained to the camp: “Do you know why I chose the pillow? So I could give it to anyone who was struggling sleeping.”
Throwing the pillow over to Anne, Nick added: “So, this is for you.” Anne replied: “Aw Nick, thank you.”
His fellow campmate James McVey told the Bush Telegraph: “What a gent Nick is and someone I am definitely going to aspire to be as lovely as.”
Whatever the truth is, Nick’s album has now rocketed up the charts! Biffy Clyro might have competition when the presenter gets out…
