Matt Evers hits back at DOI ‘fix’ claims after he and Gemma Collins make it through

He and Gemma were saved despite their low score

Matt Evers has slammed claims Dancing On Ice is ‘fixed’ after he and celebrity partner Gemma Collins made it through to next week.

Some viewers were left angry after Gemma, 38, and Matt made it through to another week despite being at the bottom of the leaderboard for their performance.

Gemma blamed her poor performance on nerves after falling face first on the ice the weekend before.

After Gemma and Matt were saved by the public and Loose Women star Saira Khan was sent home, some viewers branded the show a “fix” with some pointing out host Phillip Schofield had told Gemma she’s got “next week” to improve before the results were revealed.

After Gemma broke down in tears, Phil told her: “We’ve got next week as well, so you’ve got the whole week now to pick it all back up again.”

His comments left some fans believing he had insider knowledge that Gemma would survive until next week’s show.

During an appearance on Heart Radio on Monday, Matt hit back at the ‘fix’ claims insisting Phil was just “consoling” Gemma.

He said: “He was just consoling her. It’s like if you have a cold you’re like, ‘oh it’ll be alright. You’ll feel fine in a couple of days.’

“This show is not fixed. I’ve done 11 series of this now and we’re checked by the government. People spend their hard earned money voting for us, there is no way the show is fixed.

“It’s 50% judges’ vote and 50% public. Period.”

He also spoke about Gemma, saying viewers are starting to see the “real” Gemma.

Matt said: “You’re starting to see Gemma. The tears, the emotional person, the low confidence. You are starting to see the real Gemma.

“That was part of my goal when I found out that I had ‘the GC.'”

Phil also hit back at the claims on Twitter, insisting he would not be involved in any TV show that was rigged.

One viewer had tweeted: “I have put an official complaint to @ofcom on their website after @Schofe saying live on air that @missgemcollins would be skating next week.”

Phil responded: “We say that to everyone! You are hilarious with your conspiracy theory. Voting is independently adjudicated. I only know the result as I say it.”

But the user wasn’t happy with Phil seemingly finding humour in the situation.

Phil hit back: “Not amusing…  hilarious.”

Responding to the suggestion he had not teased seeing any other contestant next week, Phil continued: “I said it to Gemma cos she was crying. Oh btw…  it’s illegal to fix TV shows and I wouldn’t work on one that was (sic).”

In a separate tweet, Phil ranted: “WE ARE INDEPENDENTLY ADJUDICATED!!!

“All votes are checked and agreed by an independent company.”
