Jason Gardiner hits out at Dancing On Ice for ‘cutting him off’ during critiques

He's known for giving rather harsh criticism on the show

Jason Gardiner has admitted he finds it “frustrating” when Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield are forced to cut him off on Dancing On Ice.

The judge is known for his harsh critique of contestants’ performances and is often brutally honest about what he thinks of the routines.

Jason, 47, said that although he’s aware the show has to be kept to a time limit, he’s not happy about the “amount of slapstick nonsense” that ITV have put in the show.

Speaking to the Express about being cut off on the show, Jason said: “I know, it’s frustrating!

“The answer is I can’t [stop that]. Unfortunately these shows have to have a certain amount of slapstick nonsense that has to go into them. I get that.”

Jason didn’t go into further detail about what he meant by “slapstick nonsense,” but added: “I’d rather have more time for the judging panel to make a point and sometimes conclude it. We never really get that.”

Jason said that he’s just going “to talk until they cut me off”.

During Sunday night’s show, Jason clashed with Coronation Street actress Jane Danson after previously rowing with former TOWIE star Gemma Collins during last weekend’s show.

After awarding Jane and her professional skating partner Sylvain Longchambon a score of 4.5 out of 10, Jason told Jane: “Do you want to go out Jane Danson?

“Because that lacked a lot of dance content for me and the dance that you did do was very basic, which is why I understand why you put all that production in to mask the fact that there wasn’t a hell of a lot going on.”

But Jane was ready to hit back, as she said: “Well you know what, I always tell my kids to do the best you can do.

“I did the best I could tonight and I take your comment totally on board, I did my best and it wasn’t good enough, but hey.”

Jason added: “But you can improve and it’s not good enough, you’re still not hitting things properly and hitting lines that you should, because your postural lines are terrible. Fix it.”

Despite Jason’s comments, Jason and Sylvain made it through to next week’s show.
