Call The Midwife drama: Nurse Crane in peril as fire engulfs building

Could this be the end for Nurse Crane?

There are worrying times ahead for Nonnatus House – with a helpless Barbara frantically calling for help to save Nurse Crane from a burning building in tonight’s Call The Midwife.

As flames lick around the legs of what appears to be a ladder falling in the senior nurse’s direction, Barbara is unable to reach her friend and forced to seek out assistance.

“My friend, she’s inside… please help!” she urges a fireman in a teaser shared by the show after last week’s episode.

Fans were less than impressed with the possibility that Nurse Crane’s time on the Sunday night drama may be coming to an end, and have doubtless spent an entire week feeling most distressed.

However, last week’s offering was praised by many viewers on social media this week… for a “beautiful” and “superb” performance after his character Reggie helped a sailor in need.

“You made me understand how important it is to always be kind,” one fan reflected on last night’s episode.

Another tweeted to the popular star: “You were wonderful as Reggie. His kindness is one of our most favourite things.”

Reggie was caught up in a smallpox scare after encountering a sailor thought to be infected with the disease.

But after revealing he had not come into direct contact with the stricken serviceman – who turned out to be suffering with leprosy instead – despite passing on food donations, Reggie’s selflessness generated waves of good feeling with viewers.

Daniel acknowledged fans’ congratulations, tweeting: “Had a great time filming this episode. Really happy to be part of such a lovely cast and to be able to play Reggie!”
