This Morning viewers mock Eighties band for their appearance

They were heartthrobs back in the day...

We felt a real pang of nostalgia when we switched on today’s This Morning – who should greet us but our old high-school favourites Bros.

As they sat on the sofa to discuss their comeback tour, twins Matt and Luke Goss, 48, looked pretty good. In fact, with his denim jacket and cowboy-style neckerchief, Matt looked like he could’ve stepped straight out of the band’s Eighties heyday.

That’s a good thing, right? Looking the same as you did when you were a sprightly teen?

Erm, not according to some viewers, who described the duo as “rubbish” and seemed to suggest that their best days were behind them.

“Some people should stay in the 80s sorry lads,” tweeted one observer.

Another was even crueller, saying: “I think I need a sick bucket after listening to these two #Bros #thismorning.”

While a third used the title of one of the band’s hits to mock them: “Bros? BROS? When Will I be Famous? Probably not again in your lifetime mate. Rubbish!”

Matt and Luke shouldn’t feel too disheartened, though, as a number of viewers seemed to be thrilled at their appearance.

One gushed: “I actually love love LOVE @mattgoss @LukeGoss cannot wait for the show!!!”

And This Morning floor manager Bronwen Murphy tweeted a picture of herself sandwiched between the boys, alongside the words: “I’ve always loved a twin!! #bros Such lovely gentleman [sic].”

To which another fan responded: “words can’t express how envious i am…xx.”

So, mixed feelings towards the band, then. But that was always the case, wasn’t it?

While thousands swooned over hits like Drop The Boy and I Owe You Nothing, and loved the group’s distinctive fashion sense (who could forget the bottle tops thread through the shoe laces?), just as many dismissed them as a passing fad.

Well, that initial fad may have passed a long time ago, but the boys are back (minus bassist Ken) and set to play two massive dates at London’s O2 Arena on 19 and 20 August.

We wish them all the best – even if some people don’t!
