This Morning fans outraged after interview with Billy Caldwell’s mum was cut short

Tragedy for Billy

| Updated:

This Morning fans were outraged when Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby were forced to cut short an interview with mum, Charlotte Caldwell.

The mother of 13-year-old Billy Caldwell, who suffers from severe epilespy, told This Morning the treatment of her son is “orchestrated cruelty”.

Appearing on today’s episode (Thursday May 23), Charlotte revealed that he had been refused access to the medication again.

But Charlotte’s interview was cut short because it ran over time and the hosts needed to talk to the cast of Doctors.

Billy hit the headlines in 2018 when he was admitted to hospital after his medicinal cannabis oil was confiscated.

The law was changed in the UK in November 2018 allowing doctors to prescribe the oil in certain circumstances.

But Billy is still being denied access to his potentially life-saving medicine.

Charlotte said that her son had travelled to Canada to get the advice and medication he needed after suffering new seizures while taking medicinal cannabis in October 2018.

She told hosts Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby that while Billy was in Canada, she received a phone call from the Belfast Medical Trust informing her that Billy’s NHS prescription would not be supported anymore.

“I’m being told because of the new BPNA guidelines and because there’s no clinical trials data to warrant writing a prescription for a child with epilepsy,” she told Phil and Holly after they asked why Billy was being denied access.

“Medicinal cannabis has been prescribed to Billy as anti-epileptic medication. How can they justify this?”

She said that the refusal to give her son medication was, “orchestrated cruelty and discrimination against my little boy.”

Charlotte added that her son’s medication runs out today.

Fans rushed to Twitter to voice their frustration at the interview being cut short.

Charlotte’s battle to get her son the medicine he needs continues.
