Alison Hammond opens up about how it feels to be told by others she’s obese

But co-host Ruth Langsford wasn't so sure

After rushing in as a last minute stand-in for Eamonn Holmes, Alison Hammond had a very frank discussion with co-host Ruth Langsford, on This Morning today.

The 42-year-old was talking to a guest who had lost weight when the conversation happened, and Alison told Ruth it was okay to call her fat.

Nurse Fiona McQueen lost seven stone and told the presenters that she wished that a patient had told her she was obese, to help give her that motivation to lose weight.

She also said that whilst it was easy to talk about how much alcohol you drink, or how depressed you felt, it wasn’t as easy as with weight.

She sympathetically added that overweight people should be treated with compassion and support to get help to lose weight.

Ruth turned to Alison saying: “You say that people pussy foot around sometimes and you say you don’t mind talking about it.”

To which Alison replied: “They do. But I think it’s OK for you to call me fat, because guess what? I actually am fat.”

“I’m not offended by that, well even if I was offended, let me be offended, it is what it is.”

Ruth said: “It just feels so unkind.”

Alison later revealed she’s been getting into weightlifting at her gym.

Encouraging viewers to not care about what everyone else was doing in the gym, she said: “You get in there, and everyone’s doing their own thing.

“No one cares about you.

“I’ve been going lots and I’m really enjoying weight-lifting.

“I can now do 20 kilos dead-lift.”

Yes Alison, now that’s what we call girl power!
