Susanna Reid reveals early GMB starts made her ‘pile on’ weight

She dropped a stone-and-a-half by cutting out alcohol and snacking

Susanna Reid has revealed her early starts on Good Morning Britain made her “pile on” weight.

The presenter appeared on Tuesday’s Lorraine and opened up about her weight loss and revealed how she overhauled her lifestyle.

Susanna, 47, revealed she managed to drop a stone-and-a-half by cutting out alcohol and snacking after her doctor told her she was at the top end of her BMI.

She said: “I went to a doctor because I just wanted to ask him about skin problems and he said I recommend two things.

“One is you stop drinking or cut down on drinking and one is you lose some weight because you are at the top end of your BMI.

“It can creep up without noticing, I cut out snacking, I found waking up so early in the morning and you’re in energy deficit and all your body can think is, ‘have toast, have biscuits’ and you can pile it on really.”

Susanna revealed she recently enjoyed a margarita when she hosted Good Morning Britain with co-star Piers Morgan from the Oscars in Los Angeles.

However, she said it “took two days” for her body to get over it.

She explained: “I haven’t been completely abstemious when it comes to alcohol, but when we were in LA, Piers thinks I’m a dullard not drinking, so after the Oscars I thought, ‘We’re in LA, if now isn’t the time for a margarita when is?

“But it took two days to get over it.”

At the end of last year, Susanna admitted she felt “clearer, sharper and more energetic than ever” after giving up alcohol.

She told the Express: “It is more than 10 days since I last touched alcohol and I feel clearer, sharper and more energetic than ever.”

The mum-of-three also credited cutting out snacks as the key to her weight loss, saying: “It’s certainly helped me – not least because I have to get up so early and it doesn’t help when you feel as if you are in a constant state of jet lag.”
