Loose Women’s Nadia Sawalha says royals ‘owe us baby news as we paid for their wedding’

She said the public are "invested" in their romance

Nadia Sawalha has blasted Prince Harry and Meghan Markle on Loose Women for being so secretive about the arrival of the royal baby.

The TV presenter, 54, was speaking with co-panellists Christine Lampard, Saira Khan and Jane Moore when she appeared to suggest that members of the public are entitled to an announcement.

Jane, who thinks the royal baby has already been born, said: “It’s not like we’re going to turn up at her house. They could just say, ‘We’ve had the baby’.”

Nadia, who appeared to agree with that sentiment, argued that the public are “invested” in Harry and Meghan‘s love story, adding: “We loved the wedding, we as a nation paid for the wedding.”

She continued: “There are certain things that we, as the people, want to know. And the birth of the baby is one of them.”

Saira pointed out that Britain “is not America”, said Brits “like our Royal Family” and pointed out that the royals, in turn, “know how to treat” the public.

She also said that, while she understands Harry and Meghan’s need for privacy, she also wants to know, at the least, whether or not the baby has been born.

Loose Women viewers took to Twitter to weigh in on the debate.

One said: “I do think Meghan’s baby should be shown off. I do think her life should be public because she is accepting tax payers’ money. But I dislike the royals so at least Meghan is making more people dislike them too. I will say that I don’t like the constant bashing she gets.”

Another tweeted: “#LooseWomen please mind your own business. When Meghan and Harry have their baby, it’s not ours to be informed.”

Someone else wrote: “Don’t forget that just because they’re royals, doesn’t mean things can’t go wrong. Feeling the right to know about a royal baby is all well and good, but be mindful that Meghan is still a woman giving birth with the same risks as everyone else.”

A fourth commented: “#LooseWomen talking about/moaning that we don’t know if Meghan has had the baby yet and how we should be told. What if she has had the baby and there is something wrong? Why can’t she be a mum to a baby before the baby becomes prince/princess?”

The idea that the royal baby has already been born was floated on Virgin Radio this week on his breakfast show.

And earlier today, Good Morning Britain stand-in Ben Shephard slipped up by appearing to tease a royal baby announcement – only for the news to be about the trooping the colour ceremony at Windsor palace.
