Petition to bring The Jeremy Kyle Show back reaches over 12,000 signatures

The daytime show was axed on Wednesday

A petition to bring back The Jeremy Kyle Show has attracted more than 12,000 signatures.

On Wednesday, ITV announced that the show had been cancelled for good following the tragic death of guest Steve Dymond, who had appeared on the programme and is believed to have taken his own life.

After the news was shared, several petitions were set up by loyal fans to get the daytime show back and one is on its way to getting 15,000 signatures.

One petition, set up on Change.org, read: "Jeremy Kyle should be put back on, the man's girlfriend in statement to the press said that the show tried with aftercare to help this poor guest but to no avail.

"The Jeremy Kyle show and ITV should not be held accountable for anyone's mental wellbeing after they have been offered some of the best help out there.

"Jeremy Kyle has kept me motivated for nearly 15 years to be a better person and to fight for the truth and I am sure I am not the only one... keep Jeremy Kyle on TV. (Sic)"

The petition has so far attracted 12,565 signatures out of its 15,000 goal.

Fans have also taken to social media to demand the show returns.

Some people have even suggested that another TV channel should pick up the show.

One fan said: "#JeremyKyle another channel will pick it up no doubt. Channel 5?"

Jeremy Kyle has kept me motivated for nearly 15 years to be a better person.

Another said: "Jeremy Kyle coming to channel 5 it is then."

Another asked: "Can we get a petition to try and get the Jeremy Kyle show back please."

ITV said in a statement on Wednesday: "Given the gravity of recent events we have decided to end production of The Jeremy Kyle Show.

"The Jeremy Kyle Show has had a loyal audience and has been made by a dedicated production team for 14 years, but now is the right time for the show to end.

"Everyone at ITV's thoughts and sympathies are with the family and friends of Steve Dymond."

Meanwhile, host Jeremy Kyle told The Sun: "Myself and the production team I have worked with for the last 14 years are all utterly devastated by the recent events.

"Our thoughts and sympathies are with Steve's family and friends at this incredibly sad time."

Steve had filmed for the show at the beginning of May, hoping to prove to his partner Jane that he had not been unfaithful.

But he failed the lie detector test and was apparently left humiliated and traumatised by the experience and it's believed he took his own life last Thursday.
