Jeremy Kyle guest Steve Dymond told researcher ‘I wish I was dead’, inquest hears

He took his own life two weeks after filming show

Tragic Jeremy Kyle Show guest Steve Dymond reportedly told researchers on the show that he wanted to die, before he was sent home in a taxi.

Speaking at a pre-inquest review, the family’s barrister Caoilfhionn Gallagher said Steve was “exceptionally vulnerable”.

She also claimed that he had stopped taking his anti-depressants in order to take the show’s lie detector test.

He failed the test and, just two weeks after filming, took his own life.

The Jeremy Kyle Show was taken off air indefinitely as a result.

Gallagher claimed: “After his cruel shaming he did not get the appropriate support from the aftercare team.”

She added that, just 72 hours after the suggestion that he would appear on the show to discuss his on/off relationship with fiancée Jane Callaghan, Dymond’s episode was filmed.

“For a decision so potentially life-changing, there is no equivalent. There is no cooling off. You are jumped on very quickly.”

Gallagher also claimed that, following the recording, Steve was “put in a homeward-bound taxi within two hours of telling a researcher that he was really upset and that ‘life was nothing without Jane’.

She added that he said “‘I wish I was dead’, or words to that effect”.

ITV has agreed to provide the full, unedited recording of the show, while the family’s lawyers have requested internal interview notes from the show’s host, as well as behind-the-scenes teams.

The full inquest is scheduled to begin on April 27 2020.

Back in August it was revealed that Jeremy Kyle was filming a pilot for a new show with ITV.
