Viewers cringe as Kate Garraway embarrasses herself (and her kids!) on air again

GMB presenter goes all urban

There are some things in life that you wish you’d never seen – and strangely, most of those seem to happen on breakfast television.

In the last few weeks alone, we’ve had Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford pulling “sex faces” at each other, Kate Garraway stroking Jeremy Kyle, and Richard Madeley… well, just being Richard Madeley.

And the morning madness continued today when the aforementioned Ms Garraway paved the way for a potential career change by RAPPING live on air.

The presenter, 50, thought it would be funny to mimic the recent video in which Dame Judi Dench raps with grime star Lethal Bizzle, by continually shouting “Pow!” over co-host Ben Shephard’s introduction to the show.

As she gave it her all, with hand gestures and a liberal dose of urban attitude, 42-year-old Ben seemed to be amused (or maybe he was just being kind).

He told his co-host: “You and Dame Judi have something in common, finally.”

However, not everyone shared Ben’s positivity, and Kate got a bad rap of her own on social media.

One viewer commented: “The Judi Dench rap made me cringe so much, I injured myself. Thanks a lot.”

And even the official GMB Twitter feed aimed a cheeky dig at the Oxfordshire-born host, saying: “It’s going to be a very long show thanks to @LethalBizzle and Dame Judi Dench!”

Thankfully, Kate didn’t repeat the act and the rest of the show went off (relatively) smoothly.

But Ben certainly didn’t forget his co-presenter’s interruptions, and he later took to Twitter to mock her.

He wrote: “Hip-Hop meets Hip-op. @KateGarraway has always been grimey – now she’s proved it!!”

Kate had obviously been inspired by Dame Judi’s video appearance with Lethal Bizzle, in which the 82-year-old thespian is seen rapping to the grime star’s hits Celebrate and Pow.

In the latter song, the James Bond actress changes the lyrics to: “Pow! Yeah, I’m Ju-to-the-di. Pow! If you don’t know about me, better ask someone quickly.”

And as you’d expect from someone who’s played dozens of roles throughout her career, she nails it as a rapper. Can the same be said of Kate? The jury’s still out on that one…
