ITV Vs BBC: Piers Morgan goes after presenters Dan Walker and Louise Minchin

We know whose joke we liked best

Piers Morgan has barely been back on TV 12 hours and he’s already managed to offend multiple people.

Ahead of his return to Good Morning Britain, after a two-week break, the TV star took to Twitter to mock BBC presenters, Dan Walker and Louise Minchin.

Next to a screengrab showing the wrong names during a technical fault, Piers wrote: “Imagine presenting a breakfast show where even your own staff have no clue who you are. 😂😂”.

During the start of BBC Breakfast, the banner accidentally displayed the names Charlie Stayt and Naga Munchetty.

His 6.41 million followers didn’t seem very impressed with the snarky comment, replying: “Imagine presenting a show where all feel sorry for those having to work with you. #🔔end”.

Another wrote: “Gets miles bigger audience than you”. A third tweeted: “Imagine being sufficiently well-adjusted that such trivialities had no bearing on your life.

But the best retort came from Dan Walker, 40, himself.

He wrote: “Imagine presenting a breakfast show where your replacement gets more viewers than you 😂”.

He included the audience figures from the last two weeks, where presenters Ben Shephard, Jeremy Kyle and Richard Madeley covered the sofa instead of Piers, 52.

He tweeted: “Mon 5th Feb (your last Monday) average GMB audience 664,000 Mon 12th Feb (1st one without you) 703,000
#Awkward #BringBackBen #TheGoodShephard #Tears4Piers

“Nice to have you back 🤣”.

And Dan’s tweet was far more popular with fans, despite his having far fewer followers. Piers’ tweet was ‘liked’ only by only 800 people and retweeted 83 times, while Dan’s comment had nearly 2.5k likes, and almost 200 retweets.

The BBC Breakfast’s 497k followers replied to him: “Where’s Piers Morgan this morning? Oh yes, in @mrdanwalker’s pocket! #owned #dropthemic”.

Another tweeted: “Bravo @mrdanwalker Bravo 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻😂😂😂”.

A third wrote: “I always check GMB to see if it’s Piers or Ben and switch off Piers for BBC and leave on Ben.”

The awkward exchange came minutes before Piers confirmed on Twitter that he’d been named “Villain of the Year” by NME, posting a photo of himself holding the rude trophy.

He wrote: “Humbled to be No1! Thanks @NME. #VillainOfTheYear”.

The former newspaper editor was back on GMB this morning, alongside co-presenters Susanna Reid and Charlotte Hawkins.

He posted a selfie with the pair on Monday morning, writing: “I’m back! (And at least someone’s pleased to see me..) @GMB”.

Keen to live up to villainous reputation, the Twitter obsessive also laid into his co-hosts on GMB, just minutes into Monday’s show.

As the entertainment show began, Piers immediately insulted Alex Beresford, 37, who was eliminated from Sunday night’s Dancing On Ice.

Alex began: “I had an absolutely amazing time, eight weeks in…”

Piers interrupted him, saying: “Yeah whatever. Do you know what, before you give us a speech about how thrilled you are to have been dumped out before you even made it to the top three…”

The weather presenter continued: “I went out on a high, I could not have done any better…”

Piers interjected again, saying: “Well you could’ve done better, you could’ve won. So it’s not that much of a high, is it? You didn’t even win a bronze medal, and you know how I feel about bronze medals.”

Susanna 47, tried to break the tension, interjecting: “Isn’t it good to have him back!”

Piers then turned on fellow host, Charlotte Hawkins, who was on last year’s Strictly Come Dancing, dancing with recently axed Brendan Cole.

He said to her: “To be fair, where did you come? You were the worst ever, weren’t you? You were Brendan’s worst ever, right?”

Charlotte didn’t seem to enjoy the attacks much either (credit: ITV)

Charlotte looked a bit hurt, saying: “That’s not quite how I’d like to describe it, but thanks. You do it then.”

Alex hit back, saying: “At least I had the courage to take myself out of my comfort zone.”

Over on Twitter Susanna retweeted a post that spoke for everyone.
