Good Morning Britain host reduced to tears on today’s show

He got emotional after conquering phobia

| Updated:

A new year is the perfect opportunity to make a positive change in your life, whether that be giving up smoking or starting a new course.

And Andi Peters has made a very proactive start to 2018, conquering a phobia that he’s had all his life.

The former children’s TV presenter, 47, was introducing a Good Morning Britain competition from the Maldives, and while there decided to overcome his fear of WATER.

After achieving the feat by going snorkelling, an emotional Andi was left in tears – and viewers flooded Twitter with tributes to the popular star.

Kate Garraway in the studio introduced the segment by telling viewers that Andi was “embracing the new year by trying out some new experiences as he delivers our competition”.

She continued: “It’s really sweet – watch the whole of this, as he’s never before tried snorkelling in his life, and he does it and he has a really emotional reaction, which isn’t the normal Andi Peters.”

Ben Shephard then quipped: “It’s not what we’re used to seeing from ‘Big Guns’ Peters.”

The show then cut to a VT of Andi wading through crystal-clear waters in paradise.

He said in a voiceover: “They say you can’t come here and not go snorkelling, which is a bit of a problem when you can’t swim.”

Then, after admitting that he was “nervous”, we saw him bobbing in the water like he’d done it all his life.

He continued: “But after a shaky start, it turns out I’m not such a fish out of water.”

And after he finished, he could be seen blubbing as he confessed: “I’m actually genuinely a little bit emotional. That was amazing – how have I not done that in 47 years?”

Fans of Good Morning Britain were rather moved by the segment, and took to Twitter to praise the presenter for his achievement.

One wrote: “Well done @andipeters! It’s not easy to conquer your fears! You did brilliantly :-).”

Another said: “@andipeters How sweet to see that film of you on #gmb swimming. Well done!”

And a third viewer added: “Oh @andipeters going swimming!!! Proof that anyone can do anything no matter how scared you are!”
