GMB viewers divided over kissing dogs on the mouth debate

A poll revealed that 70% of Brits kiss their dogs on the mouth

| Updated:

Good Morning Britain viewers have been left divided over whether it’s okay to kiss your dog on the mouth.

During today’s show, fans were left “disgusted” after it was revealed that nearly 70 per cent of viewers voted that it’s fine to let your pooch lick your mouth.

Hosts Kate Garraway and Richard Madeley were joined by Love Island’s Laura Anderson and former Big Brother star Andy West to debate the issue.

Laura, who was joined by her adorable Pomeranian called Buddy, defended the action.

She said: “Before I got [Buddy], I didn’t think I’d be the person but it’s unconditional love. You get more germs on the tube.”

Richard interrupted: “No you don’t. You get more germs from dogs licking other dogs’ bottoms.”

Laura replied: “Humans do that as well, do they not? Dogs get such a calming effect from licking, if he licks me I let him.”

Andy pointed out: “Your dog has six hundred different kinds of bacteria in its mouth. Some people get septic shock from being licked by their dog.

“If you have an open wound, there’s a risk of septic shock.”

Laura cut in: “I’ll take the risk! People are just miserable.”

Viewers were divided over the issue and shared their thoughts on Twitter.

One person said: “I love my doggy. He relies on me every single day. He actually kisses me in a way to say thank you. Like Laura said, I’ve kissed worse!!”

Another wrote: “Nothing wrong with kissing your dog,” while a third commented: “How cute. My dog gives kisses. I don’t allow him to kiss my mouth but anywhere on my face yes.

“They depend on you for their every need and are more loyal than folk. This country needs to lighten up a bit.”

However, others agreed with Andy.

One said: “I love my dogs to bits, but wouldn’t let them lick my face, they lick their backsides yuck #gmb.”

Another tweeted: “Each to their own but I wouldn’t want a dog licking my face,” while a third added: “Don’t know how anyone can let a dog lick their face.”
