GMB viewers cringe as man proposes to partner for a second time live on air

His girlfriend previously left him weeks before their wedding

A man plucked up the courage to propose to his partner on today’s Good Morning Britain.

John Whitbread – known as Jilted John – auctioned off his fiancée Amy Jackson’s honeymoon place after she left him weeks before their wedding in 2015 as she thought they were moving too fast.

After going on the all-around-the-world trip with his pal, John ended up rekindling his romance with Amy three years later.

And he’s decided to give it another go at popping the question as he got down on one knee live on the show today.

With the help of GMB, John took Amy to a café for what she thought was the venue’s tenth anniversary.

He left their table and headed to the back, where he clipped on a mic as a choir sat in the café began to sing.

He admitted: “I’m shaking.”

John then returned to his girlfriend Amy and got down on one knee.

He told her: “You are my best mate, my soul mate. Will you marry me?”

Clearly stunned, Amy said ‘yes’ as John slipped the ring on her finger.

As the couple spoke to the camera, Amy revealed why she failed to go through with their wedding the first time.

She admitted: “It all happened really quick, I just panicked and got cold feet.”

She added that this time she will definitely go through with it.

Some viewers watching from home were left “cringing” over the proposal.

One person said: “Sorry but cringeworthy,” while another tweeted: “I wish them the best but can’t help thinking this is all a bit awkward.”

A third wrote: “One way to make sure she doesn’t say no a second time, DO IT LIVE ON NATIONAL TV! Cringe overload #jiltedjohn #GMB.”

Others were pleased for the couple.

One person said: “Good luck to them. Congratulations Amy and John!” while another wrote: “She did say yes! Congratulations both.”
