GMB host nearly misses the show by oversleeping after big night out

Two hours late!

Ben Shephard was nearly left to host Good Morning Britain alone today after Kate Garraway overslept.

The presenter admitted she was more than two hours late following a big night out at the glitzy ITV gala yesterday.

Teasing her about her tardiness at the start of the show, Ben left Kate feeling very embarrassed about her rush to get behind the desk on time.

“You promised you wouldn’t say anything!” she exclaimed as Ben told viewers ones of them nearly wasn’t going to be on their screens this morning.

Explaining herself, Kate said: “I blame the taxi driver who picked me up as I didn’t hear them.

“I overslept by nearly two hours! It was a good night but later than I thought it would be!”

She added that at least she still had her make-up on from the night before as it saved her time in hair and make-up this morning!

Speaking about their night out, Kate and Charlotte Hawkins said they were delighted to be joined by weather forecaster Laura Tobin who is currently on maternity leave after having a daughter over the summer.

“That was the best thing about last night,” Kate said about catching up with their old friend.

Ben, who missed the gala due to attending his children’s parents’ evening, added that Laura “looked lovely” but teased Charlotte and Kate about their outfit choices.

He asked Charlotte if a “bit was missing” from her black dress which had a thigh-high split to expose one of her legs.

Meanwhile, he joked Kate’s lacy monochrome dress reminded him of something – a Pearly Queen!

Seeing the funny side, Kate said: “It did look like that in the photos so a few of the papers have also pointed that out!”

If any of the hosts had sore heads after their night out on the red carpet rubbing shoulders with showbiz pals than the choice of how to start the show may have made them feel worse.

They had a bagpiper on who will be playing on Armistice Sunday.

“If he’d have been outside my house this morning it would have been a different story,” Kate joked as she praised the performance.

“That certainly knocked the Prosecco out of me!” weather forecaster Alex Beresford added.
